Plasma and LCD TV -Which Is Better?

January 10, 2017 | Author: | Posted in Computers and Technology

Believe it or not, there is a difference between LCD and plasma TVs, other than the name brand. Most people make the assumption that the terms are interchangeable, but in reality there is a different science and technology between the two types.

They are not the same. A flat screen TV can be an LCD or a plasma TV, but there is a difference between the two terms. You need to know the basics when you are looking to purchase a new telly.

The main difference between LCD and plasma TVs is what is put between the two pieces of glass that make up the picture. Plasma TVs have gas which produces the color and LCD uses liquid crystals.

A plasma TV has two pieces of glass and gas is pumped in between. The gas is charged and the particles, once struck by the gas, give off red, green and blue phosphors. This process produces pixels and makes up the picture.

So, which of the two are better? That is a matter of opinion but plasma flat screen televisions do suffer from excessive heat if left on too long and can have what is called a “screen burn.”

Computer monitors also experience this, but the use of a screen saver will prevent it form happening.

LCD and plasma TVs are probably still considered much better than their predecessors. They are much slimmer and are generally preferred because they take up less space. They can even be hung on walls with the proper mounting equipment and brackets, or you can purchase LCD and plasma tv stands.

If you decide to buy a plasma or LCD television, then compare the differences and then decide for yourself.
