Taylor Lautner – Why He’s A Howling Success

Taylor Lautner has an interesting heritage; his background is the product of no less than three cultures. He was born in Michigan to a father who works for the airlines and his mother who works for the computer industry. At an early age he learned martial arts and has engaged in many competitions.

Lautner has become quite famous as a karate champion. Beginning to train at the age of 6, his talent was quickly recognized. By the age of eight he began training with Mike Chat, a renowned world champion in the sport. Taylor went on to represent the United States in a number of Junior World Forms and Weapons competitions, winning several gold’s and the title of Champion. By the age of twelve he was a black belt champion at the Junior World level.

At the age of ten Lautner became interested in acting and informed his parents that this was what he wanted to do. After flying frequently between Los Angeles and Michigan for several years, the entire family finally moved to the Santa Clarita area in California. Continuing his concentration on acting, he began auditioning for advertising and acting rolls more frequently while he also developed a deep interest in football and baseball.

Taylor booked his first role in a television-made movie called “Shadow Fury.” Roles on “My Wife and Kids” and “The Bernie Mac Show” in 2001 soon followed and he has enjoyed fairly steady employment ever since. Many roles have included providing voices for characters such as in “What’s New, Scooby-Doo?” and “Charlie Brown.” At the age of thirteen, however, Lautner won the role of Shark boy in the animated film “The Adventures of Shark boy and Lava girl 3-D” launching him into the spotlight in the movie industry.

His success as Shark boy enabled him to continue auditioning and he was selected for the role of Eliot in “Cheaper by the Dozen 2” where he was teamed with Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Eugene Levy, and others. At that time, he became interested in many aspects of the trade such as scriptwriting and directing. As a result, at his high school he has been able to pursue these interests by making movies.

More recently, Taylor’s character role as Jacob Black, a Native-American character in the Twilight Movies, brought him much attention. When vying for the sequel he was required to gain 30 pounds while weight-training in order to develop the muscles required for the part. He also received a movie role in “Valentine’s Day” and did a very good job as the youngest host ever on “Saturday Night Live.”

Recognition of his martial arts ability has finally come into play as well. For 2010 Lautner has secured roles in the movies “Cancun” and “Abduction” which will show this side of his talent. In addition he has a voice part in the upcoming 3-D movie, “Stretch Armstrong.” His reputation is growing and it is expected that many more roles will follow.

Taylor Lautner has won awards as People’s Choice for Male Breakout Performance, the Kid’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Actor, and many others. Taylor Lautner continues his acting career with enthusiasm. He is the highest paid teen in the industry and it seems there is no stopping his journey to a career that will remain in movie history for years to come.
